Attention all you Broadway geighs, esteemed and imminently knowledgeable blogger ModFab has begun to handicap the all-important Tony Awards nomination race. This week he’s focusing on the play categories, new and revival. No surprises in the frontrunner for best new play, August: Osage County seems to be a favorite, but what will it be up against? Ex-liberal David Mamet’s presidential comedy November? Or Brit intellectual Tom Stoppard’s Rock ‘N’ Roll?
As for revivals, it’s maybe Mike Nichols’ celeb-infused Country Girl (he’s got Morgan Freeman and Frances McDormand) versus a mustachioed Patrick Stewart headlining Macbeth.
Ooh, the anticipation! Pins and needles!
(Just asking: if the Oscars are the gay Superbowl, what are the Tony Awards? The gay presidential election?) [Modern Fabulousity]
