You Have to Believe It Was Magic

Courtesy of my friend Eric, who’s working for the producer, I attended the final dress of the Broadway musical Xanadu, adapted, wittily, from the scintillating Olivia Newton-John movie. And it was really, surprisingly good, in a cheesetastic way! Camp factor cranked up to 10! As one of the characters says during the show, “it’s like children’s theater for 40-year-old gay men.” And it kinda is! Or, for my friend Melissa who accompanied me, a chance to reconnect with childhood lost, when magic was a pair of roller skates (four wheels, natch!) and some snazzy leg-warmers. So below, the climactic scene from the movie–in all it’s 80’s rollerdisco glory! Xanadu!
