We all know those glowy pull-quotes that adorn the ads for the latest entertainment product are judiciously selected to make it seem at casual glance like the reviewer shat himself with glee while evaluating said movie/book/TV show/etc. But sometimes it’s nice to visit the the counterpoint, the anti-pull-quote if you will, just for a bit of perspective. While one might disagree with the reviewer on their stance, it’s always fun to see them employ a clever turn of phrase or snarky description. On the new essay collection from humorist David Sedaris comes this gem, via Entertainment Weekly:
These stories strain to reach their natty little endings, and one disjointed ditty, ”Buddy, Can You Spare a Tie?” reads like the literary equivalent of selling a kidney to make rent.
