Friday Night Link Dump: Jerky Couture, Gruel and Buck Rogers

December 19, 2008

Whither luxury?  Behold the Chanel purse made from beef jerky.

What the Dickens?  Researchers say the “thin gruel” doled out to the eponymous moppet in Oliver Twist would actually have been quite hearty and substantial. Being an orphan in 19th-century England still sucked, however.

If you are displeased with The Spirit (the early reviews look bad!), you probably won’t be happy that Frank Miller is planning on bringing Buck Rogers to the big screenBidi-bidi-bidi!

The Hours:  a musical tribute.  Seriously.  Watch.

All right, I’m off for the holidays to drink my weight in snowtinis in hopes of forestalling my impending seasonal affective disorder.  Regular updates resume in a week or so.  Cheers.

Bettie Page, R.I.P.

The F.I.T. Coke Queens:   “We’re not Plaxico Burress!”

Death by bacon?  Sounds like a heavenly way to die.

And from the inbox, “potato shaped like Madonna and child”:  “Some food-world colleagues and I turned up an amazing looking potato that we decided this morning to post on eBay. Thought you might be interested to check it out…”  Really? I would? Really?!  Whatever, here’s the link. “NOT A HOAX!”

Friday Night Link Dump: Booze, Bears and Britney

December 5, 2008

Well, one company is thriving in this hemorrhaging economy:  Jack Daniels.  Makes sense.  I am going to invest in oil drums and cords of wood, for when we all need to heat our hobo camps.

If you somehow didn’t read the internet this week, it was all about  Tina Fey. In this clip from the Barbara Walters special, you can see a few seconds of grainy old footage where a pre-makeover Fey shakes her ta-tas during a Second City sketch.

Blogs Mollygood and Stereohyped are closing shop.

John Waters gave us his list of top films of 2008.

Bears in space!

If you missed the cringe-worthy “documentary” about sad, possibly mentally ill pop star Britney Spears, you can watch the whole thing online here.
