Well, it seems upon opening that August: Osage County has lived up to its promise and dazzled the Great White Way’s critics. Charles Isherwood of the Times calls it “the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years.”
The producers will have a hard time in tomorrow’s ad meeting choosing which exuberant pull-quotes from the glowing reviews they’ll use to adorn the theater’s marquee. Having seen an early preview of this piece (pre-strike), I’m hoping now that it’s open it’ll garner the audience it deserves. Nothing says “holidays” like a stirring dysfunctional family piece.
